Building on the success of the Temporary Outdoor Patio (TOP) Program, which was launched in 2020 as a pandemic response measure, the new City of Richmond Patio Program is an ongoing opportunity for additional patio types and provides greater flexibility for businesses considering their future options.
Patio Options
This new Patio Program provides food and beverage establishments with three new options:
- Utilize adjacent public property to expand their seating areas via a curbside patio
- Utilize adjacent public property to expand their seating areas via a sidewalk patio
- Create seasonal patios on private property from Apr 1 – Oct 31 by shifting a portion of their allowed seating and occupancy capacity outdoors.
Businesses seeking to increase their total occupancy load or build a permanent patio structure on private property can apply through the existing application process.
