For the fourth year in a row, the City of Richmond supported the Young Entrepreneurship Leadership Launchpad (YELL Canada) program by organizing a business tour for high school students enrolled in the program.
YELL Canada is a registered Canadian charity that was founded by three entrepreneurs including Richmond businessperson and past Economic Advisory Committee member Amit Sandhu. The program is an experiential accelerator for high school students interested in developing leadership, business and entrepreneurship skills. It is currently offered in high schools across Metro Vancouver and British Columbia, with plans to expand nationally.
“This is an excellent opportunity for students to connect with and learn from local business leaders,” said Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie, “It is also a way for the City to help encourage the development of tomorrow’s leading edge entrepreneurs.”
On Monday, December 4, 2017, a group of 23 high school students from Richmond School District 38 visited Sage Software and Saltworks Technologies to hear first-hand about the challenges and opportunities of starting and growing a business. Other Richmond companies that have participated in previous years include Harbour Air Seaplanes, Peekaboo Beans, Whitewater West Industries, Procurify, London Drugs, and others.
As announced at Mayor and Council’s Annual Business Appreciation Event in October, the City and its event partners continue to support this program as a means to help develop the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders.
